Whale Way

Yesterday, we drove to Kaikoura. Just when we thought we’d seen everything the landscape could show us, we ran into these brown hills. We also rode past coast that was brilliant ice blue due to rocks just underneath the water near the shore. Then in Kaikoura, we saw a seal colony. We stopped here specifically to take a boat tour today to see sperm whales, the largest toothed whale on earth. (Most whales eat by sieving krill through baleen, not chewing with teeth). We saw two sperm whales, dolphins , albatross, seals, and even a blue fairy penguin out to sea. I didn’t get high-quality pics or videos that convey the experience, but we have the memories.
