The Remarkables are a nearby mountain range, and everything we’ve seen so far has been remarkable. We thought the North Island was extraordinarily beautiful but the South Island even more stunning from our first view from the airport. But I will let the views make their own remarks. This was the view from our balcony when we arrived. And this was the other direction. While this was straight across. We spent some time getting re-outfitted for our month drive around the South Island, but managed to get in a walk around Lake Wakatipu today. Tomorrow, we head to Haast, which we saw online “expected to get Internet connectivity in 2019.” So, again, not sure if we’ll be able to post/get in touch for a couple of days. Also, the road to it was closed yesterday due to a “slip” (mudslide), and closed today due to a tree falling across it. We may be going with Plan B tomorrow: an all-day drive to the next road over to the coast road: a 7-hour drive north. The adventure continues.
gorgeous views! worrying to read about mudslides but know you’ll be careful, and that rainbow brings good luck, begorrah.
Beautiful! But yes, be safe and good luck
