Coast to Coast, sort of

Forgive the long entry. We left Tasmania and went to Melbourne, where the first day after arriving we went to see the penguin parade at Philip Island. No photos allowed (thus the black square at top), but I got a shot of a couple at “The Nobbies,” a group of hills near the one where the penguins parade.

They were very cute. They are called blue penguins or fairy penguins because they are the smallest, at about 33 cm (one foot) and two pounds (1 kilo).

We finally saw some wallabies in the wild,

as well as white wallabies, though not in the wild.

The next day we went back to more urbane pursuits, like museums. The National Gallery of Victoria had a high-quality collection on display, if not the quantity of our Chicago museum.

The next day, we rented a car and headed to Fish Creek, gateway to Wilson’s Promontory (the Prom).

Luckily, Kevin drove in Ireland on three previous trips, though driving on the left has been tiring. We then drove to a lovely motel near Lakes Entrance, though we didn’t get a chance to see much before heading again to Eden, where we arrived on the weekend of their Whale Festival. Sadly, we have not seen any from the coast. Though we have seen a lot of beautiful coast.
